Rt. Hon. President Ramchandra Paudel Concludes Official Visit to Japan Marking 70 Years of Nepal–Japan Diplomatic Relations

Rt. Hon. President Ramchandra Paudel paid an official visit to Japan from 1 to 4 February 2026, at the cordial invitation of the Government of Japan. The visit was of special significance as it commemorated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.

As part of the official programme, the Rt. Hon. President had a State call on His Majesty Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on 3 February 2026. On the same day, President Paudel also held a bilateral meeting with H. E. Ms. Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister of Japan.

Earlier, on 2 February 2026, President Paudel attended a special reception hosted on behalf of the Government of Japan by H. E. Mr. Iwao Horii, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, to celebrate seven decades of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan. Prior to the reception, the State Minister paid a courtesy call on the President.

 

During the visit, the Rt. Hon. President also participated in a meeting with the Japanese business community, highlighting opportunities for enhanced economic cooperation, investment, and partnership between the two countries. In addition, he attended a reception hosted in his honour by the Embassy of Nepal in Japan.

The President was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Sabita Paudel, along with high-ranking government officials.

The Rt. Hon. President returned to Kathmandu on 4 February 2026, concluding a historic visit that further strengthened the longstanding friendship, mutual trust, and cooperation between Nepal and Japan.
